Workshops on insects to mark Earth Day and the Day of "Resavska cave"
On the occasion of marking Earth Day and the Day of "Resavska cave", the Institute organized workshops for students on the hidden world of cave insects at the plateau in front of the cave on April 19th, 2019.
The participants of the program were welcomed by the director of PE "Resavska cave", Milostiva Kočić and Danko Jović, head of the Institute’s office in Niš. The entomologist of the Institute, Aleksandra Zatezalo, within the workshop "Let's look at the invisible world of cave insects", explained to students how the insects looked and why they were important in the cave by showing them the samples from the Institute's insectarium. After the introductory presentation, students had the opportunity to view these almost invisible insects through a magnifying glass. Based on what they saw, the children drew out the insects on a piece of paper.
The Institute’s entomologist also held a workshop "Knowledge against the fear of hornets", considering that hornets inhabit the cave’s surroundings. In this workshop children were introduced with the appearance of the hornets’ nest and hornets’ way of life in order to get to know how to behave in their vicinity.
After workshops, the students went to the cave with the guides of PE "Resavska cave". Associates of the Institute Nataša Panić and Bojana Bojović and a volunteer Tamara Bosić also participated in the realization of the program. Local TV station Resavske novosti from Despotovac made a reportage about the workshops and the program of marking Earth Day and the Day of "Resavska cave".
