Educational program on the importance of bird protection in Šabac
In cooperation with the elementary school "Stojan Novaković" from Šabac the Institute presented to the students of Šabac schools the importance of making Red Books and Red Lists on the example of the Red Book of Fauna of Serbia III – Birds. The program was held at the Center for Professional Development in Šabac on April 17th, 2019. Part of the program was also a workshop in which children learned about the threats to owls in Serbia and their place and role in nature.
The Red Book of Fauna of Serbia III - Birds was presented by the Institute’s ornithologist, Miloš Radaković who held a workshop in which, after a brief introduction about the characteristics and way of life of 10 species of owls inhabiting Serbia, the students were asked to find four models of owls in the park near the center, by using binoculars and a telescope, and to identify the species of owls they found based on the instructions.
The program was led by Nataša Panić, head of the Institute’s Education and Publishing Group and Marija Đerić, biology teacher at the elementary school "Stojan Novaković" from Šabac, while the local TV station from Šabac made a reportage in order to present to public the issue of owls.
