The marking of World Environment Day
The World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide every June 5th. On this day across the globe, millions of people are engaged in various activities to help protect the Earth. The topic of this year's celebration of the Environment Day is "Air pollution," and the host country is the most populated country in the world - China. The goal is to educate and motivate people, polluters, world governments, local communities and individuals in various activities at global, national and local level in order to reduce further air pollution.
On this occasion, the representatives of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia visited the protected habitat "Veliko blato" where they held a presentation on the values and importance of protected species and biotope of this protected area to the students from the primary school "Vasa Pelagić". Students of the fifth, sixth and seventh grades had the opportunity to learn about strictly protected species of wild orchids Orchis palustris Jacq. and Epipactis palustris (L.) that grow on the territory of the protected habitat, as well as about other strictly protected and protected plant and animal species.
For this occasion, students prepared an exhibition of their works, thus presenting the diverse flora and fauna of "Veliko blato", whereas members of the Society for the Protection and Study of Birds of Serbia held a workshop "Plastic Ocean" in order to point to the harmful effect of plastic on the aquatic world of the ocean.
