This monograph was a great challenge for everyone involved in its writing. The team for compiling the Red Book of Birds of Serbia had the task of collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting on the risk of extinction, which would contain the summarized almost unimaginable amount of data and knowledge about birds of Serbia, which for almost three centuries were collected by naturalists and scientists from different professions. The book presents 352 recorded species and the estimated risk of extinction of breeding populations of 255 species and non-breeding populations of all species. The main purpose of the Red Book of Birds of Serbia was to create a reliable instrument that would present a scientific and professional basis for the protection and conservation of our country's wild birds.

Crvena knjiga pravokrilaca / Red Data Book of Fauna of Serbia IV- ORTHOPTERA
Editor: Prof. Milica Pavkov Hrvojević

Authors: Dragan Pavićević, Ivo Karaman, Mladen Horvatović

Publication format 29 cm, 246 pages, written in Serbian and English

The main aim of this monograph is to stress the necessity of comprehensive protection of the most endangered species of Orthoptera on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. As these insects are often limited in distribution and closely related to a particular habitat type, their protection is possible only with the permanent protection of their habitats. During multi-decade field surveys across Serbia and considering the literature data, we have reached the number of 35 taxa, which we believe are potentially endangered or on the verge of total extinction from Serbian fauna. It is about 18% of Serbia's Orthopteran fauna.

Vodozemci i gmizavci Svete Gore i Hilandara / Amphibians and Reptiles of Athos Peninsula and Hilandar Monastery

Authors: Rastko Ajtić, Milivoje Krvavac, Danko Jović
Co-publisher: The Holy Serbian Imperial Lavra Hilandar on Mount Athos
Published in 2018
Publication format 28 cm, 164 pages, written in Serbian and English

With this publication we wanted to bring seemingly contradictory attitudes of science and religion into agreement at the time when the scientific and divine order of nature were questioned. After three years of study and research, we present to you the first manuscript which describes the richness of fauna of amphibians and reptiles on the property of the Hilandar monastery and the surrounding area. It can be considered to be credibly illustrating the wealth of this group of vertebrates in the entire peninsula of Mount Athos. However, this is yet the first in a series of publications by which the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia will present the natural values of this area.

This book presents 109 protected areas and 11 protected species. In addition to the type of natural area (national park, nature park, nature reserve, landscape of outstanding features, nature monument and habitat) and the presentation of its most important features of bio and geo diversity, the book provides the information for each area’s classification into one of the ecological networks or the network of internationally important areas. Each area has been illustrated by photographs of its landscape, biodiversity of its species, geoheritage sites and authentic cultural monuments. The presented natural areas have been selected not only because they are most representative in their type and category, but for the fact that they display all the diversity of natural heritage of Serbia, as part of the richness of the world’s natural heritage.

Birds, one of the most sophisticated groups of living beings on Earth, have always attracted attention, provoked curiosity and aroused the imagination of man. The book "The Birds of Đerdap" is a result of the project "Survey of the status and protection of priority species of birds at the area of the National Park Djerdap", which was realized in the period 2010-2011. On that occasion, data were collected for 174 bird species out of a total of 270 registered for the Đerdap area. With this book we wanted to present the birds of Đerdap and its surrounding area in the scientifically popular way, with a special emphasis on rare and endangered species.
