20th anniversary of the Biosphere Reserve “Golija-Studenica” and the Nature Park “Golija”
On the occasion of 20th anniversary of protection of the Golija Nature Park and of the designation of the Biosphere Reserve "Golija-Studenica", a seminar will be held on November 9 and 10, 2021, organized by the manager of these areas, PE "Srbijašume".
On the first day of the seminar, scientific research projects that have been realized during 2020 and 2021 in protected areas managed by PE "Srbijašume" will be presented. Representatives of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia will present the results of two projects "Research of the Timok basin ichthyofauna within PP" Stara planina" and "Research in vascular flora of PP "Stara planina". On the second day of the seminar, a professional tour of the area will be organized for the participants.
The Biosphere Reserve Golija-Studenica was designated in 2001 on the basis of a nature conservation assessment that has determined the area as characterized by a large number of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic and relict, and important cultural values, as a basis for ensuring the development of this area in accordance with nature conservation. The Commission of the UNESCO MAB Program (UNESCO Man and Biosphere Program) designated the area "Golija-Studenica" as the first biosphere reserve in our country in 2001, according to the expert proposal of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia. In the same year, the Government of the Republic of Serbia designated Golija as a protected area according to the Conservation study "Golija Nature Park", which was prepared by the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia. With this designation, Golija gained the status of a natural heritage of exceptional national and international importance.
