World Biodiversity Day is celebrated worldwide on May 22nd. It was established by the UN in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro as the day when the world's widest public recalls the threat to the planet's life and the importance of its preservation. In Serbia, the protection and conservation of biodiversity, in addition to the application of national legislation, are ensured by the application of international conventions. This year's World Biodiversity Day is celebrated under the slogan "Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health".
