Hilandar – Medicinal Herbs in the Garden of the Mother of God

The monograph "Hilandar - Medicinal Herbs in the Garden of the Mother of God" is the third publication co-published by the Hilandar Monastery and the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia.

It is dedicated to the research of nature, its features and values, this time particularly to medicinal herbs on the estate of the Hilandar Monastery. The title itself implies the long tradition of herbal medicine in this holy place. Knowing that Mount Athos is the hot spot of European biodiversity and that in the past the research of flora in this area has been conducted by the most prominent European botanists, this publication can be assumed as an important and comprehensive, richly illustrated and a detailed continuation of that work.

The authors, especially inspired by the work of the monk called Sava Hilandarac and the famous Hilandar Medical Code, researched and described more than a hundred of plant species, both wild and cultivated, and listed the ways of their application in medical treatment.

Red Data Book of Fauna of Serbia IV- ORTHOPTERA

Editor: Prof. Milica Pavkov Hrvojević
Authors: Dragan Pavićević, Ivo Karaman, Mladen Horvatović Co-publisher: Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Novi Sad, Department of Biology and Ecology Published in 2018 Publication format 29 cm, 246 pages, written in Serbian and English

The main aim of this monograph is to stress the necessity of comprehensive protection of the most endangered species of Orthoptera on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. As these insects are often limited in distribution and closely related to a particular habitat type, their protection is possible only with the permanent protection of their habitats. During multi-decade field surveys across Serbia and considering the literature data, we have reached the number of 35 taxa, which we believe are potentially endangered or on the verge of total extinction from Serbian fauna. It is about 18% of Serbia's Orthopteran fauna.

After three years of study and research, we present to you the first manuscript which describes the richness of fauna of amphibians and reptiles on the property of the Hilandar monastery and the surrounding area. It can be considered to be credibly illustrating the wealth of this group of vertebrates in the entire peninsula of Mount Athos.
