Nenad Sekulić, PhD

Head of Department of Biodiversity, Ecological Networks and Sustainable Development

Nenad K. Sekulić was born on October 22nd, 1968 in Zrenjanin, where he completed elementary and secondary education. In 1995 he graduated from the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Novi Sad, with a diploma thesis titled "Comparison of morphological characters of the species Podarcis muralis (Laurenti, 1768) (Reptilia, Lacertidae) from the Stara planina Mt. region and Petrovaradin". Upon completing the study program Ecology, biogeography and biodiversity protection, module Biodiversity protection, he earned a doctorate in 2013 at the Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade, with the thesis "Ecological characteristics and morphological-genetic differentiation of the population of the European mudminnow (Umbra krameri walbaum, 17922) from Bačka region, Mačva and Semberija", thus gaining the title of the Doctor of Environmental Science.

From 1995 to 1999 Nenad Sekulić was employed with the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia at the Institute’s Department in Novi Sad, and since 1999 he has been employed at the headquarters of the Institute in Belgrade. In 1997, he became a curator as he passed the professional exam in Museology at the National Museum in Belgrade. In the period 2005 to 2012 he was employed with the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia as the Head of the Department of Biodiversity, and since 2016 he has been the Head of the Department of Biodiversity, Ecological Networks and Sustainable Development. So far, he has participated in 8 national and 17 international projects, wrote 30 articles as contributions to the drafting of Studies on the protection of areas, as well as of the strategies on nature conservation, and he also participated in the drafting of by-laws in the field of nature conservation and the protection and sustainable use of the fish fund.

Nenad Sekulić published the results of his research work in 13 scientific papers in the international and national journals and 40 surveys of the scientific meetings in the country and abroad. He is also a co-author of dozens of publications in the field of nature and biodiversity conservation in Serbia, among which are "The Prokletije Mountains of Metohija, Natural and Cultural Heritage", "Emerald Ecological Network in Serbia", "A Handbook on the Control of Cross-Border Traffic and Trade in Protected Species", "Biodiversity of Serbia: Current state and perspectives", "Šargan - Mokra Gora Nature Park", and "Protected Natural Areas in Serbia".Nenad Sekulić is the Editor of the Institute’s journal Nature Protection.

Nenad Sekulić lives in Belgrade. He is married and has a daughter.
