STRICT AND SPECIAL NATURE RESERVES
A strict nature reserve is an area of unaltered natural characteristics and representative natural ecosystems, intended solely for the conservation of pristine nature, gene pool, ecological balance, monitoring of natural phenomena and processes, as well as scientific research that does not disturb natural characteristics, values, phenomena and processes.
Special nature reserve is an area of unaltered or slightly altered nature, which is of particular importance for its uniqueness, rarity or representativeness. It includes habitats of endangered wild species of plants, animals and fungi, whereas it excludes human settlements or there are only a few settlements where people live in harmony with nature. This area is intended for the conservation of existing natural characteristics, gene pool, ecological balance, monitoring of natural phenomena and processes, scientific research and education, controlled visits and preservation of the traditional way of life.
Special nature reserve can be floristic, mycological, forest and other vegetation, zoological (ornithological, ichthyological and others), geological, paleontological, hydrogeological, hydrological, etc.
It is forbidden within the strict and special nature reserves to perform activities that may impair the characteristics due to which these areas have been designated as protected natural resources (harvesting and destroying plants, disturbing, capturing and killing animals, introducing new biological species, land reclamation, various forms of economic and other uses and the like).
Visits to a strict and special nature reserve for the purpose of education may only be conducted according to a permit issued by the protected area manager. Measures for the protection of a strict and special nature reserve are more closely defined by the act on the designation of a protected area.
Monitoring of natural phenomena and processes and scientific research are carried out according to a permit issued by the Ministry and in the presence of the protected area manager.
Economic and other activities are prohibited in the strict nature reserve.
