LEGAL PROTECTION IN THE PAST

According to the Decision on the Protection of the Part of Natural Area of the Mali Jastrebac Mountain, No. 633-3, Municipality Assembly of Merošina ("Official Gazette of the Municipality of Niš" No. 33/1971) this area was protected as the Memorial Natural Monument "Tatkova zemunica". The reason for the original protection was the fact that inside the forest complex was a dugout where on August 13th, 1942 Nikodije Stojanović - Tatko, a national hero and a fighter of the Toplica Partisan squad, was killed.

During World War II, in the area of the protected natural resource and its surrounding, the fighters of the Toplica Partisan battalion clashed with the units of the Serbian State Guard, the Volunteer Unit and the Chetniks. Two dugouts, built in this area as food storage facilities, were used as a shelter by fighters during the offensive. In 1975, near the dugouts, a space was arranged in honor of the members of the resistance movement during World War II, at the initiative of the Union of Fighters of the Second World War of the Republic of Serbia. This memorial area "Tatkova zemunica" consists of a memorial composition at a space of 8 segments, as well as of a memorial plaque. Within the protected area there is the church of Sveti Vrači, the hotel "Mali Jastrebac" with sports fields and the resort facilities owned by the Correctional Institution Niš, Deligrad.
